KICK-ASS 2 Movie Review

I have not previously reviewed the original Kick Ass movie, which I happened to really enjoy. However this review is for the sequel Kick Ass 2. I will compare the two though for those of you who have seen the first and wish to know more about the second installment.

Let's say Kick Ass 1 had a base score of 10/10. For the Sequel I would give 8/10. Why? Well although as a whole the second was an enjoyable movie experience The start seemed very amateur and the pace was a little slow. However, after roundabout one third of the way through the movie I felt I was back in the Kick Ass universe and the story got really dramatic. Again the film is rife with dark humor and is not recommended for kids. I don't like giving spoilers so I will not discuss the plot of the film but if you enjoyed Kick Ass 1 then this is definitely worth a watch. By the end of the film I'm sure you will be satisfied with your next adventure with Kick Ass, Hit Girl and the rest of the odd ball characters whom make Kick Ass, Kick Ass. Enjoy the movie!

The Dark Knight Rises Review 2012

The Dark Knight Rises - 2012 Blockbuster Movie
Having already seen, the first two movies of this series, Batman Begins and the Dark Knight I expected something special from The Dark Knight Rises. I visited the cinema with my wife, sister and her fiancee, and settled down to see what this movie had to offer. The opening scene was just as dramatic as the 2008 Dark Knight movie, if not more so! Also like it's predecessor it was an epic movie. Lots of action and drama. However it seemed to wane (excuse the pun... Bruce WAYNE) in the last 3rd or so and there seemed to be a major continuity error which I will not mention as its a main part of the plot. However, even after the movie had finished I felt I had seen good value for money and if the second movie scored 9/10 then the third was certainly worth an 8/10. I'm not sure if they will make any more movies in the series but I know the writer, Christopher Nolan, has provided the story for an upcoming movie called the Man of Steel. Which is about? You guessed it, Superman! There's a movie well worth waiting for as I'm sure it will be every bit as good as this Batman series. One last mention about a possible future sequel for the Dark Knight is the introduction of a famous character from the original Batman series right at the end of the movie. Watch it, enjoy it and see if you notice which character at the end. Thanks for reading!

Batman - The Dark Knight Review

As a huge fan of Batman Begins I was really looking forward to this movie. Before seeing it I had already heard lots about it, such as the brilliant performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker and that it had broken box office records in it's first weekend at the theatres. Now that I have seen the movie I can report that it is an excellent masterpiece. I was a little concerned through parts of the film as I found myself cheering on the Joker. (Probably due to my sympathy to the actor Heath Ledger.) That's the only logical reason I can see as the Joker was a raving psychopath. The eery music when the Joker is on screen helps bring out to great effect the insane psychology of Batmans latest foe. Another of Batman's famous foes is also introduced in the movie. However, I will not reveal which as it would ruin the suprise but the story gives clues away throughout the film until the villan emerges. It stars some of the original cast from the Batman Begins movie including Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. If you want to see the hottest film in the cinema right now then I suggest you see this, but you may need to book in advance.

Trivia - Heath Ledger was warned by Jack Nicholson about playing the roll of a psychopath. (Nicholson also played the Joker in the earlier set of Batman films)

The Bourne Identity

Yet another of my personal favourites. The bourne Identity tells the story of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), a man who after losing his identity. Must literally fight to find out who he is. This is an action/thriller and unlike most films it spawned two sequels that were at least as good as the original if not better.

Falling Down

Falling Down, starring Micheal Douglas as your average Joe turned Vigilante. After some marital problems and having been fired from work, a man goes on a rampage through an american city. Extremely violent in places, also spiced up with dark humour. This is a must see film and one of my favourites.

INDIANA JONES and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I haven't been looking forward to a film as much as this one since Matrix Reloaded, and although the latter disappointed I have high expectations for Indy 4. Unlike the previous 3 films where the Nazis featured as his enemy, this fourth one pits Indiana against the Russians during the cold war.

The Plot
Famous Archeologist Indiana Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls

I will list this as coming soon, but will update it after I have seen the movie.... Can't wait.

INDIANA JONES and the last crusade

My personal favourite (SO FAR) in the Indiana Jones series. This particular one also stars Sean Connery as Indy's eccentric father. The duo team up on a quest for the holy grail against the evil nazis. Thrill after thrill, full of comedy and adventure. This film was released In 1989 and I can still remember sitting in the cinema all those years ago. During the movie I quickly looked at my watch to see how long was left as I was enjoying every minute of it. I just hope Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is as exciting.

INDIANA JONES and the temple of doom

As a big Indy fan I give this movie the thumbs up, although it has received many negative comments from critics. Ok, so it's not as good as 1 or 3 and hopefully not the forthcoming Indy 4 but as an Indiana Jones fan you will not be disappointed. Like all 4 films it stars Harrison Ford as the titled hero who embarks on another archaeological adventure. This time in India, where he must overcome an evil force that is bringing desolation to the local area.

A classic and a must see.

The Matrix

One of my personal favourites. It stars Keanu Reeves as Neo. The latest recruit for alleged terrorist Morphius (Played by Lawrence Fishburn). Neo is taught a terrifying truth about the world he thought was real. He goes from small time computer hacker to the possible saviour of the world. Fantastic special effects and a fascinating storyline. This should be a definite addition to your DVD collection, and if you haven't yet seen it then what are you waiting for? It spinned two sequels which were no match for this original.

INDIANA JONES and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

The legend of Indiana Jones starts here. Harrison Ford plays the hero as an adventurous archeologist. The movie begins with probably one of the most famous scenes in cinema history. Indy is on a quest for an ancient relic and must bypass several booby-traps as well as deal with his untrustworthy allies. After overcoming the impossible, Indy loses the relic to an adversary and is lucky to escape with his life. The story then builds up to a quest for the lost ark of the convenant. (The Ark that Moses put the stone tablets in which contained the ten commandments). In a race with the Nazis this is one thrilling ride and this Indy film as well as the rest are in my all time personal favourites.

Trivia:- The role of Indiana Jones was actually intended for Tom Selleck, but due to a contract with the series 'Magnum', Selleck had to pull out.

Trivia:- Indiana Jones was created by George Lucas, the man behind The Star Wars films.

Escape from L.A

I have seen this movie many times. It is the 90's sequel to the hit 80's film "Escape from New York". It stars Kurt Russell and is set in a futuristic hell like world. Snake Pliskin (Kurt) is again blackmailed by the corrupt government to embark on a rescue mission. In which he has to retrieve a satellite E.M.P (Electro Magnetic Pulse) triggering device. Spiked with an alleged lethal virus he is in a race against time to accomplish his mission. Will he succeed? Well if you like Sci-fi then it's worth finding out.

Apocalypto

Wow!!! What can I say about this movie? Well first of all, I am 99% sure that, if just prior to it's release. If Mel Gibson had not received such bad publicity, this film WOULD have won best picture at the Oscars. Due to Mel's behaviour it wasn't even nominated.

The cinematography is OUTSTANDING. This movie tells the story of Mayan Villager (Jaguar Paw), kidnapped by ruthless City Mayans and taken to their urban society for an unknown fate. I don't want to spoil it for you by saying anymore, but this movie should be top of your list in future films to rent. It's directed by Mel Gibson and is in Mayan with English Subtitles.

Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is my personal favourite of the director Quentin Tarantino. The breakthrough for Tarantino came with Reservoir Dogs, a low budget 'Underworld' movie which was big on conversation. (I may mention that one at a later date.) Again, this movie is big on conversation and again tells an underground tale. It has several inter-twined stories that all meet up in one place or another. The ending to the film is when Bruce Willis rides off on a motorbike with his woman, but that part is featured about 3/4 of the way through. The actual ending of the film is set just prior to the start of the film and then blends in to a hilarious effect. I will forgive you for feeling confused but after following the entire movie from start to finish you will appreciate just what a rare piece of art this gem is. An all-star cast, if you haven't seen it then check it out.

Saving Private Ryan

Another fantastic Oscar winner starring Tom Hanks. Saving Private Ryan brings the fictional story of a group of Allied World War 2 soldiers. Their mission is to find and bring home the last remaining son of Mrs Ryan, the mother who has already lost 3 other sons. During their mission they encounter the enemy on several occasions and when they finally find 'Ryan' the film culminates with a breathtakingly realistic battle. An all-star cast and a must see!!!

THEY LIVE

This is my all time favourite B-Movie. It tells the story of a drifter, who stumbles upon a sinister truth after finding a special pair of sunglasses. Although the acting leaves a little to be desired, the plot is fantastic and this film has become a cult classic. It stars Roddy Piper (formerly a WWF Wrestler).

Titanic

A disaster movie with a touch of romance. If you have not yet seen this film, then you are missing out big time. Over 2 hours of pure entertainment are on offer here with OUTSTANDING special effects. The story has 2 tales. 1. The true story of the rise and fall of the Titanic. (The ship classed as unsinkable). 2. A fable love story, where 2 people from different social classes fall for eachother. The main story is focused on the blossoming love between the previously mentioned duo, with the impending disaster slowly building up in the background. It climaxes with the sinking of the ship and captures the horror of how it must have been for the real people on the real ship. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. A 5 star classic and a MUST see!!!

Braveheart

Braveheart - This movie follows the life of William Wallace (Mel Gibson). A Scottish peasant who, after the murder of his Brother and Father by the evil English is taken away and brought up by his Nomad Uncle. After his travels and education he returns to his home village, where he meets his childhood love to whom he marries in secret. After a short romance, his sweetheart is also murdered by the English and this leads to the legend of William Wallace. He begins a rebellion against English which eventually triggers Victory for the Scottish over their English counterparts.
The battle scenes in this movie are extremley realistic and incredibly gory so be warned. The speech by Wallace given to his Scottish army just prior to the initial battle is so passionate that it will give you a shiver down your spine. It's no wonder this movie won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Trivia - Although this movie is a 5 star film. It is not entirely historically accurate. Wallace did meet the dreadful end portrayed in the Story but according to history, he fled Britain to Mainland Europe where he was eventually captured.
